Strawberries on 903, a North Carolina Certified Roadside Farm Market located 4 miles south of Winterville on Hwy 903 in Pitt County, announces their 2012 Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.
Growing in popularity around the nation, CSAs offer community members the opportunity to buy fresh, local, seasonal food directly from a farmer by purchasing a “share” in the farm. Shareholders buy into the farm as members at the start of the growing season, and in exchange receive a weekly allotment of the farm’s harvest. Shareholders enjoy the many rewards of the growing season, which include weekly access to delicious, locally grown, nutritious fruit and vegetables.
CSA shareholders will receive a box of produce each week for 12 weeks, running from May through July. The assortment of produce will vary throughout the season and contain a wide variety of seasonal items. Multiple convenient pick-up sites and dates will be available, based on the number of members.
May produce will include asparagus, cabbage, strawberries, spring onions, red potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, garden peas, beets, leaf lettuce, farm fresh eggs and cut flowers.
June produce will include strawberries, yellow squash, patty-pan squash, zucchini, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, garden peas, beets, sweet onions, cucumbers (slicers, pickles and burpless), tomatoes (slicer and grape), blueberries, peaches, farm fresh eggs and cut flowers.
July produce will include squash, zucchini, eggplant, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, okra, cantaloupe, watermelons, bell peppers, jalapeño peppers, green beans, cucumbers, butter beans, blueberries, peaches, farm fresh eggs and cut flowers.
Subscribers can purchase a Community Supported Agriculture Share for $240 (12 weeks @ $20/week). The prices of the produce will reflect the retail values of seasonal items.
